Yoga on the Gold Coast

The Gold Coast and Tweed Heads together had 693,596 people at the 2021 Census (ABS QuickStats), more than any other city outside the capitals. Classes run all the way from Coolangatta to Coomera, so the suburb you name, and whether you would rather practise near the beach or the hinterland, decides which studio we pass your request to.

Parks yes, sand no

The City of Gold Coast needs a commercial fitness provider permit for paid classes in its parks and reserves, and names yoga among them. A yoga or Pilates class can take up to 30 people for up to 90 minutes, but commercial fitness is not allowed on the beaches or bathing reserves (City of Gold Coast). Indoors, the council's Palm Beach Fitness Centre lists yoga and yin yoga among its group classes (City of Gold Coast), and its Active and Healthy program runs more than 350 weekly activities in parks and community facilities (City of Gold Coast). Over the border, Tweed Shire licenses yoga classes on its parks and beaches (Tweed Shire Council).
