Private Yoga Sessions

A private session is one to one with a teacher, at a time that suits you. People book them to learn the basics, to prepare for group classes or to fit a busy week.

What a private session is

In a private session the teacher plans the hour around you: your experience, what you want to learn and the time you have. Some people book one or two before joining a group class; others book a regular time because group timetables do not fit their week. Small groups of friends or family sometimes book together.

Where it happens

Sessions usually take place at the studio, and some teachers also visit homes or workplaces. A teacher who runs paid classes in a council park needs the council's permit. In Melbourne, for example, the City of Glen Eira's covers yoga and limits each approved site to 15 people (City of Glen Eira), and on Victorian state-managed land regular paid classes need a tour operator licence (Parks Victoria). Each city page notes its own council's rules.

What to ask

Ask about the teacher's training, how sessions are booked and cancelled, and whether the teacher holds a working with children check if a child is joining. Every state runs its own check; in Victoria, for example, coaching or tuition for children is child-related work (Victorian Government). Services must also be provided with due care and skill under the Australian Consumer Law (Consumer Affairs Victoria). Then send a request, or start with beginner classes.

Private Yoga Sessions: questions

Can a teacher come to my home?

Some teachers visit homes. Say so in your request and we pass it to a studio that can tell you what it offers.

How long is a private session?

Usually about an hour. Ask the studio what it offers.

Can I book a session for a small group?

Many teachers will. Tell us how many people and the times that suit you.
